Unsolicited telephone calls from people claiming to be from "J B Law"

Members of the public have received unsolicited telephone calls from people claiming to be from "J B Law".
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that members of the public have received unsolicited telephone calls from people claiming to be from "J B Law". The SRA is advised that that the call asks the recipient to provide details of any recent accident they or a family member have been involved in.
The caller may provide the address of the firm as 22 Sunderland Road (or 22 Sunderland Street), Macclesfield and give an SRA number of "619610".
The SRA does not authorise or regulate any firm with the name "J B Law".
Any business or transactions through the firm name "J B Law" or the address 22 Sunderland Road (or22 Sunderland Street), Macclesfield are not undertaken by a solicitor's practice or an individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
"J B Law" was a firm authorised and regulated by the SRA but it ceased trading on 30 September 2012. That firm did practice from the address 22 Sunderland Street, Macclesfield.
The SRA does authorise and regulate a genuine firm with the SRA number "619610". The genuine firm has confirmed that it does not have any connection to the unsolicited calls that are being made.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
