Warning: Emails misusing the name "Richmond Chambers”

Emails have been sent claiming to be from “Richmond Chambers” in respect of an inheritance, and also requesting payment to work as an aupair.

What is the scam?

The SRA has received a report that emails have been sent to members of the public, falsely claiming to be “Richmond Chambers”.

The email seen by SRA refers to an inheritance, and claims to be from an ill individual who wants to donate her deceased husband’s inheritance to the recipient of the email. The email asks the recipient to contact the sender's lawyer “Barrister Paul Richmond, Richmond Chambers & Partner UK” on richmondchambersuk@hotmail.com and +44 2030955350.

The email appears to be sent from the email address Mrskibbosonh@gmail.com

The SRA has also been advised that other emails have been sent, claiming to be from “Sarah Giddens” at “Richmond Chambers”.  The SRA understands that the emails ask the recipient to send money for an application to work as an aupair to be processed. The SRA also understands that the emails ask the recipient to contact “Sarah Giddens” at sarahgiddens.esq@instruction.com and may contain the telephone number +44 7404465822.

Any business or transactions through " Richmond Chambers " using the contact details listed above are not undertaken by a solicitor's firm authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Update – 5 July 2018

Further information has been received in relation to the second scam mentioned in the above alert (regarding emails encouraging payment for an application to work as an au pair).

The SRA has seen further similar emails, also sent from the email address sarahgiddens.esq@instruction.com, but appearing as if sent from “Barr. Sarah Giddens”.

The SRA has also been informed that recipients of similar emails have called a telephone number provided and, when querying if it is a scam, spoke to someone claiming to be called “Christy Irvine” and presenting themselves as the secretary of Sarah Giddens. The SRA has been informed that the individual claiming to be “Christy Irvine” is wrongly advising members of the public that this is not a scam and encouraging them to proceed in sending money to become an aupair worker.
