Advocacy research

We are carrying out research to help us understand the work of solicitors who provide advocacy.

As part of this, we will be sending out an online survey to firms and solicitors who might provide advocacy to individuals, businesses and other organisations. This includes solicitors working for the Crown Prosecution Service and those working in-house.

This will be sent out week beginning 30 July and should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. So, if you receive a survey link, we would be grateful if you would complete it for us.

The questions look at:

  • Types of advocacy
  • How and when higher rights of audience are used
  • How firms choose advocates for cases
  • The competences required for effective advocacy

This will give us a more complete and up-to-date understanding of firms and solicitors providing advocacy. The findings will help us to consider how best we can continue to assure standards of criminal and civil advocacy.
