Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme
5 February 2024
The Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme (QLTS) has been replaced by the SQE route.
This information is only for qualified lawyers who have already started qualifying through the QLTS.
Before you apply for admission, please check you can still qualify through QLTS.
If you have passed both the MCT and SQE2 assessments
You now need to complete the background checks/screening process before you can apply admission. Find out how to apply.
Once you have your screening results, you can apply to become a solicitor.
When applying, you will be asked to upload a copy of a certificate of good standing from all jurisdictions where you have been admitted. The certificates must be less than three months old (we recommend that the date of issue is no longer than two months on the date you make your application) and confirm:
- your date of admission
- that you are in good standing
- that you have not been subject to any disciplinary proceedings
- that there are not any pending disciplinary proceedings against you
- that you are currently entitled to practise.
We may verify this with your home bar(s).
For more on applying to become a solicitor, take a look at Admission forms and fees.
Qualified Lawyers Transfer Regulations (QLTR) 2009
Under the Authorisation of Individuals Regulations, there is no provision for a person to apply under the QLTR 2009. We will, therefore, apply a waiver so that someone who has completed the requirements under the QLTR, can apply for admission.
You can apply for admission in mySRA once you have completed the pre-screening process.
To find out how to apply for admission, see Admission forms and fees.
You need to have met the requirements of your Certificate of Eligibility before applying for admission. You will be asked to upload the following documents:
- certified copies of your QLTT certificates showing that you have passed the required heads.
- a copy of a certificate of good standing from all jurisdictions where you have been admitted.
If you were required to do work experience, we need a completed Experience Evidence Form (PDF, 7 pages, 194KB) with a covering letter. This must be an original from your supervisor, on your employer's letterheaded paper and needs to confirm the information in the form.
This document may be helpful when completing the experience evidence form: QLTT experience requirements (PDF 6 pages, 78KB).
