Checking and validate your degree
Updated 19 March 2025
Who can apply
Any aspiring solicitors who already has a degree or equivalent level 6 qualification. Find what counts as a degree.
If you are a solicitor apprentice, you do not need to complete this application.
What you we will need
Our third-party validation service, Atlantic Data check and validate all degrees and equivalent level 6 qualifications. To do this, you will need to give us this information:
- university/institute name
- course name
- classification (result)
- qualification
- enrolment and graduation years
- degree/qualification certificate or student ID number.
Non-UK degrees
If you have a non-UK degree, you can find out if it is equivalent to a UK level 6 degree by doing a UK ENIC comparability check. This check is separate from the validation process and incurs an additional fee. You may wish to do this when considering becoming a solicitor, but it is not a requirement to apply before you do the degree validation process.
However, Atlantic Data must also do this compatibility check, and you cannot reuse any Statement of Comparability you already have from UK ENIC. Therefore, you will still need to apply for your degree to be checked, and pay the related fee.
Please note that this check does not confirm if the degree was taught or assessed in English or Welsh. Therefore, for applicants with an SQE2 exemption, you cannot use the results as evidence of your English or Welsh language proficiency.
Payment
You pay all fee direct to Atlantic Data at the end of your application.
