Warning: Correspondence misusing the name of Henry Charles Glen
21 August 2022
A contract has been sent misusing the name of Henry Charles Glen in relation to the recovery of previously lost funds.
What is the scam?
The SRA understands that a supposed contract has been received by a member of the public, falsely claiming to be from a genuine solicitor (see below).
The document seen by the SRA is a contract for work to be supposedly carried out in relation to recovering money lost by the recipient in a previous purported investment. The document also requests the payment of funds.
The recipient was also sent a copy of a passport, supposedly for the solicitor, but which appears to have used false information.
We are informed that the telephone numbers provided were '020 8068 4502' and '+44 7717 722081' and we have also been provided with a partial email address of 'henry.glen@asset-recovery'.
Any business or transactions through the above telephone numbers or email address are not undertaken by an individual or firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Henry Charles Glen.
The genuine solicitor has confirmed they have no connection to the documents referred to in the alert above.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
