Warning: Website for 'Highgate Hill Solicitors' claiming to be an SRA Regulated law firm

5 May 2023

A website for 'Highgate Hill Solicitors' is operating, and falsely claiming to be for an SRA Regulated law firm.

What is the scam?

The website https://highgate-hill-solicitors.weebly.com is operating and falsely claiming to be an SRA Regulated law firm called Highgate Hill Solicitors.

The website advises members of the public that it provides advice on English, Greek and Cypriot Law and provides an address of ’98 Dresden Road, London, N19 3BQ’ and a telephone number of 020 7263 6445.

The website also falsely claims that Dr Katherine Alexander-Theodotou remains a solicitor of England and Wales.

The SRA no longer authorises or regulates a firm of solicitors called ‘Highgate Hill Solicitors’ or a genuine solicitor called Katherine Alexander-Theodotou (see below).

Any business or transaction through ‘Highgate Hill Solicitors’, Katherine Alexander-Theodotou, or the website and contact details referred to above, is not undertaken by a solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA previously authorised a firm of solicitors called Highgate Hill Solicitors, whose head office address was 98 Dresden Road, London, N19 3BQ, England. The firm has closed.

The SRA also no longer authorises a genuine solicitor called Dr Katherine Alexander-Theodotou (SRA ID: 12628).  Dr Katherine Alexander-Theodotou was previously a solicitor but was struck off the roll on 25 May 2022.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
