Warning: Website falsely claiming to be Streathers Solicitors
30 August 2024
A website at 'www.streathers.net' is operating and falsely claiming to be a law firm called 'Streathers Solicitors'.
What is the scam?
A website at 'www.streathers.net' is operating and falsely claiming to be 'Streathers Solicitors'.
The website misuses the name of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below). It includes contact details of 'charlotte.badden-powellesq@streathers.net' and the telephone number '44 7424 212653'.
The SRA has also seen emails claiming to be from 'Charlotte Badden-Powell' of Streathers Solicitors, using the email address 'cbaden-powell@streathers.uk'. These include a contact telephone number of '02037694961' and misuse the name of a genuine individual (see below).
Any business or transaction through the website of 'www.streathers.net', the email addresses of 'charlotte.badden-powell.esq@streathers.net' or 'cbaden-powell@streathers.uk', the telephone number of '02037694961' and the mobile number of '44 7424 211653' are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA does authorise and regulate five organisations with the word 'Streathers' in their name, including Streathers Solicitors LLP. The genuine firms are not believed to have any connection with the above website.
The SRA authorises and regulates Kitty Charlotte Sylvia Baden-Powell (also known as Charlotte Baden-Powell) who is employed at Streathers Highgate LLP. Her genuine email address is 'cbaden-powell@streathers.co.uk'.
The genuine firm has confirmed that neither it nor the genuine individual have any connection to the website or email correspondence referred to in the above alert. What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
