Warning: Fax message from 'Good Law Corporation' and fraudulent website

Fax has been received by a member of public from Good Law Corporation located in Vancouver, Canada, in respect of insurance payout.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been advised that a fax message was sent to a member of public from someone claiming to be 'Mathew Good' of 'Good Law Corporation' regarding the death benefit payout under insurance policy.

The fax states that the firm's contact details are as follows: website http://www.goodlawllp.com, email address info@goodlawllp.com and telephone number (236) 260-1001. The contact details provided in the fax are mathew.good@goodlawllp.com and mathewgood70@gmail.com.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Good Law Corporation' or 'Good Law LLP'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate an individual called Mathew Good.

Any business or transaction through 'Good Law Corporation' and 'Good Law LLP', the individual or contact details listed above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA does authorise and regulate two organisations with the words 'Good Law' in their name, neither of whom are believed to have any connection with the website and communication detailed in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
