A letter has been sent misusing the name of Bindmans LLP, in relation to Judicial Proceedings.

What is the scam?

A letter has been sent misusing the name of Bindmans LLP. The SRA has seen a letter purporting to be from 'Tasneem Afzal Qureshi’ a ‘partner’ at Bindmans LLP. The letter claims to be a ‘notification to initiate judicial proceedings for malicious prosecution, compensatory and Punitive Damages under the Torts of Emotional Distress, Reputational Harm and Economic Loss’

The letter provides the following telephone number; ‘02078334566’

The letter misuses the name and address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below) The genuine firm has confirmed that it does not employ anyone 'Tasneem Afzal Qureshi’

The SRA does not authorise or regulate any genuine solicitors named 'Tasneem Afzal Qureshi’ and any business or transaction through 'Tasneem Afzal Qureshi’ is not undertaken by an individual authorised by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Bindmans LLP Bindmans LLP is based at 236 Gray's Inn Road, Kings Cross, London, WC1X 8HB, England and its genuine telephone number is 02078334433.

The firm has confirmed that it does not have any genuine connection to the letter referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary.
