Warning: Website misusing the name of 'Farrer & Co LLP'

A website at 'www.farrerandcolf.com' was misusing the name of a law firm.

What is the scam?

A website at 'www.farrerandcolf.com' was misusing the name and information of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The email address provided on the website was 'info@farrerandcolf.com'.  

The telephone numbers provided were:

  • '+44 1995 641'
  • '+1-800-456-478-26'
  • '+1-800456-478-27'
  • +1-800-456-478-28'
  • '+44 7463128119'
  • '+1 2135852599'

The website also provided a postal address and a contact telephone number for a supposed branch office based in Poland.

The website listed 'Harley James' as a consultant lawyer and 'Nicole Finn' as the 'owner, Partner'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate solicitors called 'Harley James' or 'Nicole Finn'.

The website at 'www.farrerandcolf.com' is no longer active.

Any business or transactions through the website 'www.farrerandcolf.com', the email address 'info@farrerandcolf.com', 'Harley James', 'Nicole Finn' or any of the telephone numbers listed above, is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.  

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Farrer & Co LLP. Its head office address is 66 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3LH. Its genuine website is www.farrer.co.uk, the firm's telephone number is 02033757000 and the email domain used by the firm is @farrer.co.uk.

Thomas Cleeve is a genuine solicitor at Farrer & Co.

The genuine firm of Farrer & Co has confirmed that neither it, nor its Thomas Cleeve have any connection to the website referred to above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
