Warning: Website and correspondence misusing the name and details for Gabriel Rose Solicitors
28 November 2024
A website at ‘www.gabrielrosesols.co.uk’ is operating and emails have been sent misusing the name and details for Gabriel Rose Solicitors.
What is the scam?
A website at 'www.gabrielrosesols.co.uk' is operating, misusing the name, telephone number, postal address and SRA number of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).
The website seen by the SRA provides a contact email address of 'info@gabrielrosesols.co.uk' and displays an image of the SRA clickable logo (which is not genuine). The website provides the telephone numbers '+44 742 484 1130' and '+44 742 445 3727', which are not genuine contact details for solicitors. The website also provides a supposed fax number, which misuses a genuine contact number for the genuine firm (see below).
Correspondence has also been sent to a member of the public from a 'Michael Allen', from the email address 'michael@gabrielrosesols.co.uk', falsely claiming to be a solicitor at Gabriel Rose Solicitors. The email seen by the SRA advises the recipient about a supposed inheritance and provides an email address for a clerk of 'mail@gabrielrosesols.co.uk'. The email also misuses the name and details of a genuine firm of solicitors and the name of genuine solicitors (see below).
Any business or transaction through the website 'www.gabrielrosesols.co.uk', the email addresses 'info@gabrielrosesolicitors.co.uk', 'michael@gabrielrosesols.co.uk' or 'mail@gabrielrosesols.co.uk', or through the telephone contact numbers '+44 742 484 1130' and '+44 742 445 3727' is not undertaken by the genuine firm referred to below, or any firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates Gabriel Rose Solicitors, a sole practice with the SRA ID of 8007020. The firm’s head office address is Bethel House, 6 Coalfield Grove, Aylesham, Canterbury, CT3 3FX. The firm’s telephone number is 0122 7467041.
Gabriel Rose Solicitors has confirmed that it has no connection to the website referred to above and does not employ anyone by the name of Michael Allen. The genuine firm does not have a website.
The SRA authorises and regulates a number of solicitors with the name Michael Allen, none of whom are believed to have any connection to the above matter.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
