Warning: Email misusing the name of Salomi Patel of Lumine Law Limited
27 February 2025
An email has been sent misusing the name of Salomi Patel of Lumine Law Limited
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that an email has been sent that falsely claims to be from Salomi Patel of Lumine Law Limited (see below for details of the genuine firm and solicitor).
The email related to supposedly organising payment of funds, and we understood led to an attempt to divert payment of funds. The email was sent from the email address s.patel@luminelaw.uk and provided a telephone number of 02039501146. This telephone number is not associated with the genuine Lumine Law Limited and the bogus email also misused the genuine address and SRA ID number of the genuine firm (see below).
Any business or transaction through the email address s.patel@luminelaw.uk or any email address using the domain name @luminelaw.uk, or the telephone number 02039501146 is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA does authorise a genuine solicitor called Salomi Patel (SRA ID: 7020508) who is employed by Lumine Law Limited (SRA ID 645265).
The genuine firm of Lumine Law Limited (which trades as Lumine Solicitors and Lumine Law) has a genuine address of 2nd Floor, 156 Cromwell Road, London SW7 4EF, a correct telephone number of 02039502246, and uses emails from the domain address of '@luminelaw.co.uk'.
Lumine Law Limited has confirmed that neither the firm nor the genuine Salomi Patel have any genuine and intended connection to the email referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
