Warning: Documents have been sent misusing the name of ‘Abdelrahman Sherif’

31 January 2025

Documents have been sent claiming to be from an ‘Abdelrahman Sherif’ at ‘Atlas Law Limited’, regarding supposed recovery of lost funds

What is the scam?

The SRA has been advised that documents have been sent to a member of the public claiming to be from an ‘Abdelrahman Sherif’ at ‘Atlas Law Limited’, in relation to a supposed recovery of lost monies.  The documents misuse the name of a genuine solicitor (see below).

The SRA understands that ‘Atlas Law’ has been purporting to act for an individual attempting to recover previously lost funds. We understand that advance payments were sought to supposedly release ‘frozen funds’ being held at HM Courts and Tribunal Service.

The SRA has seen a document purporting to be a client care letter and falsely claiming to be sent by ‘Atlas Law Limited’, signed by Juliana Silva. The client care letter provides an address in Manchester and the telephone number of ‘+44139251685’.

The letter also falsely claims that the firm is authorised and regulated by the SRA, and it misuses the SRA ID number of a commercial company that is not authorised and regulated by the SRA. The SRA has also seen emails using the email addresses ‘robertgordon-reece@atlg.co.uk’ and ‘juliana@atlg.com’

The SRA have also seen an image of a supposed passport purporting to belong to ‘Abdelrahman Sherif’.

The SRA does not authorise a genuine firm of solicitors called ‘Atlas Law Limited’ nor does it authorise or regulate an individual called Juliana Silva Fox.

Any business or transaction through the telephone number ‘+44139251685’ and the email addresses ‘robertgordon-reece@atlg.co.uk’ and ‘juliana@atlg.com’ is not undertaken by a solicitor or firm of solicitors authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Abdelrahman Sherif. The genuine Abdelrahman Sherif has confirmed that he has to no connection to the documents or passport image referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
