AD1 Application for admission as a solicitor and for first practising certificate
Purpose Instructions Go to
The AD1 application is for  trainee solicitors, qualified lawyers transfer route applicants, CILEXs, and justices' clerks who seek to be admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales.

Anyone who has served under a training contract will automatically be sent an AD1 form eight weeks before their contract is due to end. If you have not followed the training contract route, you can download a blank AD1 form in PDF format to complete. Admission information

AD15 Application for admission as a solicitor under Article 10 (European)
Purpose Instructions Go to
The AD15 application is exclusively for eligible individuals who wish to be admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales under Article 10 of the European Establishment Directive. The application is for admission and an initial practising certificate.

FA1b Firm-based authorisation: Apply for authorisation of a new legal entity for an existing firm
Purpose Instructions Go to

To be used for existing SRA-authorised firms which are changing their legal entity only with no other material changes. Common change of legal entity scenarios include:

  • a Recognised Sole Practice wishing to operate as a recognised body limited company
  • a recognised body partnership wishing to become a recognised body LLP or limited company
  • a licensed body partnership wishing to become a licensed body LLP or limited company

FA1c Firm-based authorisation: Application for a Legal Disciplinary Practice electing to become a licensed body
Purpose Instructions Go to

To be used for existing SRA-authorised recognised bodies which meet all of the following criteria:

  • currently hold Legal Disciplinary Practice (LDP) status;
  • has no more than 25% non-lawyer management;
  • has no more than 25% non-lawyer ownership;
  • is not increasing its non-lawyer management or non-lawyer ownership above 25%; and
  • is not changing legal entity.

FA4 Advance Notification of a new deemed-approved manager/owner
Purpose Instructions Go to
Under specific circumstances, the Advance Notification form (previously known as NM1) can be used to notify us of manager and owner changes.

To notify us of a deemed solicitor/REL/RFL manager/owner: the firm authorised signatories (AUSs) and organisation contacts (ORCs) can add deemed-approved manager posts for a firm via mySRA (select My Organisation > Your Organisations Name > Related Individuals from the left-hand menu.)

To notify us of a deemed-approved Authorised Body manager/owner : you will need to notify us using the Advance Notification form.

FA6 Firm-based authorisation: Notify us of a deemed approved COLP and/or COFA

To be used for existing SRA-authorised firms which wish to appoint a new compliance officer under the deeming provisions in Rule 13.3 of the SRA Authorisation Rules 2011.

Purpose Instructions Go to

To be used for individuals who require specific approval as part of a firm-based application for authorisation or recognition of licensable bodies (also known as alternative business structures, ABSs), prospective recognised bodies and sole practitioners:

  • Individual managers requiring specific approval
  • Individual owners requiring specific approval
  • Individual managers of a corporate manager requiring specific approval
  • Individual managers of a corporate owner requiring specific approval
  • Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP)

FA3 Firm-based authorisation: Application for approval of an entity manager/owner
Purpose Instructions Go to
To be used by all applicant firms (Licensable Bodies or Legal Services Bodies) who intend to have another entity as a manager or corporate owner which requires specific approval to act as a manager or owner.

NNR Notification of non-renewal

Use form NNR to inform us that you do not wish to renew your practising certificate or registration.

NS1 Notice of succession
Purpose Instructions Go to
This form is to notify the SRA of a successor turnover figure for each of the affected firms where (1) a firm has succeeded to the whole or part of the practice of one or more firms, or (2) a firm has split or ceded part of the practice to another firm and wishes this to be considered by the SRA when determining the firm's next periodical fee.

REG3 Notification of intention to apply for a practising certificate or registration

 Individuals subject to regulation 3 of the SRA Practising Regulations 2011 were previously required to submit a separate notification in advance of their renewal application. This is no longer the case. The relevant questions now form part of the renewal applications available in mySRA.

TC2 Application for training contract time extension (2011 regs)
Purpose Instructions Go to
If a trainee is absent for more than four months for reasons relating to illness, maternity/paternity leave or unpaid leave with the training establishment’s consent, the training contract must be extended, and form TC2 is used to apply to the SRA for the extension. (SRA Training Regulations 2011)

TC3 Application to register the transfer or cancellation of a training contract and to certify a period of training (2011 regs)

In form TC3, the training principal certifies that the trainee has satisfied the specified period of training, and is of suitable character to become a solicitor. Both parties sign to confirm their agreement to the cancellation. (SRA Training Regulations 2011)

TC5 Application to waive the requirement to pay trainee solicitors a minimum salary (2011 regs)
