Registering to take the next SQE1 assessment

To take the SQE1 in January 2025, candidates will need to complete a form to reserve a seat. To do this, you first need to be registered to sit the SQE.

Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Register for an SQE account.
  2. Complete the pre-booking steps.
  3. Complete the seat reservation form emailed to you when available.

Kaplan, our assessment provider, will then allocate you a seat in line with your preferences. If it's not possible to offer you your first choice of location and/or date, Kaplan will allocate you a seat as close as possible. It allocates seats in order in which it received completed seat reservation forms.

If you need a reasonable adjustment, you should make the request as early as possible as part of your pre-booking steps.

SQE results out in August and September

Results for the SQE2 sitting in April will be released on 28 August 2024. Candidates who took the assessment will receive an email after 11.00 with a link to access their results via their candidate account. The statistical report for this sitting will be published later that day on the SQE reports page.

Then the results for the most recent SQE1 sitting will be out on 10 September 2024. Again, candidates who took the assessment will receive an email. The statistical report for this sitting will be published a few weeks later. Find out more about what information is included in a candidate's SQE1 results.

Taking the SQE in Welsh

Candidates intending to take an SQE1 or SQE2 assessment in Welsh need to give advance notice to be able to do so. You can find the deadlines and the form you would need to complete on the SQE website.

Taking the SQE2 in October 2024

Bookings for the SQE2 sitting in October are now underway. This means eligible candidates have already been asked for the seat preferences, and Kaplan is currently working on this. From 13 August, candidates will see the seat reserved for them in their candidate account, unless they have requested a reasonable adjustment. They then need to pay to complete their booking by 17.00 on 16 August.

For candidates waiting their SQE1 results from July, they will be contacted about their seat preference and will then have until 20 September at 17.00 to pay.
