Apply to the Solicitors Indemnity Fund

You may be able to make a claim on the Solicitors Indemnity Fund (SIF) if:

  • your loss was caused by the poor service, mistake or negligence of a firm or solicitor we regulate; and
  • the firm closed more than six years ago without another firm taking over its work
  • you are making a claim under historic liabilities.

If that is the case, you should complete and return a SIF claim form, and also provide all relevant supporting documents.

Once you have completed the application form, please send it back to us by email or post.

Timescales

Once we have your information, we will respond within 10 working days. We will then decide if the claim falls on the SIF of if another insurer or firm may be liable. If that is the case, we will refer your claim form to them and provide their name and contact details for your information.

If there is no other insurer, we will process your claim.

We aim to deal with your claim as quickly as possible, however we cannot give a timescale for when our work will be completed.
